Mariachi bands are traditionally all-male. So Flor de Toloache, a band comprised solely of women, is causing quite a stir in the music world. Born in New York City nearly a decade ago as a trio that performed on subway platforms, the group is now Latin Grammy–nominated, and features a rotating roster of performers who simply love to play with one another. “You put women together and you just have this natural reaction of becoming sisters,” says group cofounder Mireya Ramos to Frank. “We all love each other. We’ve become a family.”
