Name: Tze Chun
Company: Uprise Art, an online art gallery
Industry: Arts & Entertainment, E-Commerce, Social Enterprise
Location: New York, NY, United States
Reason for Starting: I started Uprise Art to make collecting art easier and more accessible. Our gallery connects emerging artists with art lovers, and our collectors have the option to live with the art while investing over time through monthly installments.
How do you define success?: Being able to innovate, and making a difference. With Uprise Art, we’re creating a sustainable model for art creation and collecting.
Biggest Success: We won the DailyCandy “Start Small Go Big” contest last year and were mentored by amazing entrepreneurs such as the Jonathan Allen and the founders of Birchbox. I learned a lot of important lessons from the contest and since then Uprise Art has partnered with a number of the program mentors.
What is your top challenge and how have you addressed it?: We don’t have a marketing or advertising budget, so getting the word out about our gallery is always a challenge. To address that challenge, we’ve build an online and offline community of artists and collectors that encourages people to spread the word about our events and follow us through social media.
Who is your most important role model?: My mother. She taught me that if you believe in yourself, others will too.
